Lately, I’ve been asking myself if I’m really listening. Not just to customer feedback, employee issues, or my accountant’s advice after my attempt to reenact a Wolf of Wall Street spending spree, but actually listening to people.
In this challenging economy, it’s easy to get panicky and worry about the future: Can I make payroll? How will I get more clients? Will my business still be here in 10 years? Even the most stoic individuals can find themselves questioning and doubting.
What I know for sure is that no one creates a thriving business alone. Behind every successful CEO in the spotlight, there’s a team of highly competent, incredibly intelligent individuals ensuring everything runs smoothly. Every company has them. If you’re not listening to those around you, start now.
Ask yourself: When someone asks a question or makes a suggestion, do you already have an answer? If so, pause. Is that answer genuine, or just a panicked reaction? Write it down, revisit it later, and see if it still holds up. Don’t let quick responses get in the way of finding the right direction for your business success.
